Letters of Recommendation

Don’t take his word for it… read what colleagues have to say about working with Tesauro.

His work has moved Virginia wines far in reaching new audiences.

Jason Tesauro is a transformer.

To meet him is to be changed. When he enters a room, that room is inevitably electrified by his presence. Part of that has to do with Jason’s personal charisma and style, sure, but the Jason Tesauro Experience goes much deeper than that. His success — as a writer, as a public speaker, as a sommelier, as a curator — comes down to two factors: (1) knowledge and (2) connectivity. In terms of knowledge, well, Jason never stops learning. His brain and his heart are wired to absorb as much information and expertise as possible — and to share that knowledge with the world. He knows a great deal about wine, of course, but the encyclopedia of his mind also encompasses poetry and cooking and design and fashion. All of that empowers him to foster connections in the buzzing immediacy of a moment. A taste of this dish leads him to pour that glass of wine, and a sip of this wine reminds him of that Cesare Pavese poem that he happens to have at his fingertips. None of this is staged. All of it reflects the unique way in which Jason engages with the world, effortlessly linking one delight to another. Ultimately Jason has a natural gift when it comes to connecting with people. He wants to hear their stories, and he wants to share his knowledge with them. If a person leaves an encounter with Jason Tesauro feeling magnified and illuminated and transformed, then he knows he has done his job.

Jason is the epitome of a true showman.

Whether performing in front of one buyer, a group of colleagues, a small intimate crowd or a large-scale audience, his dynamic energy and creativity make every wine tasted and every story about a wine unforgettable. He has an uncanny talent for connecting with buyers and guests, making wine approachable and enjoyable for novices while engaging experts with thoughtful insights. Jason’s warm personality has made him a favorite among colleagues and buyers, but also consumers who routinely return to Jason’s wine dinners over and over again.

Jason’s efforts to grow Barboursville’s sales in the broad market—at festivals, in restaurants, and in fine wine shops – contributed to Barboursville being nominated as Wine Enthusiast’s “American Winery of the Year for 2023 and to the Monticello AVA being named “Wine Region of the Year for 2023.” Jason’s advocacy for Virginia wine and the people that make it has further solidified Barboursville’s reputation as a destination for wine lovers and the premier winery on the East Coast.
